Overview
Enabling and creating winners is central to the location and design of the Bafokeng Sports Campus. The campus is situated at 1,250m above sea level in a region that enjoys a year-round temperate climate, abundant sunshine and little wind interference.
The campus boasts an unusually wide range of professionally designed pitches, fields and tracks, cutting-edge equipment and top-class gym and medical facilities.
The Bafokeng Sports Campus’s high performance gym is a strength-and-conditioning facility with all the equipment necessary to train professional sportspeople. Ideal for athletes looking to improve structural and functional strength or sport-specific power, the gym offers state-of-the-art cardiovascular and weight equipment and an indoor resistance pool.
Pitches, fields and special features:
- two FIFA A-grade football fields;
- four synthetic turf, floodlit pitches;
- five other natural grass sports fields;
- a beach soccer field;
- netball and tennis courts;
- a grass athletics oval;

High Performance Gym
Bafokeng Sports Campus’ High Performance Gym (HPG) is a strength-and-conditioning facility where sports specialists are available to train professional sportspeople. Ideal for athletes looking to improve structural and functional strength, or sport-specific power, the HPG offers state-of-the-art cardiovascular conditioning programmes, elite sport training, personal training, fitness conditioning and full access for teams’ and groups’ own coaches and trainers.
Medical and Rehabilitation Centre
The medical and rehabilitation centre at the Bafokeng Sports Campus is equipped to allow specialist doctors, physical therapists, biokineticists and dieticians to:
- assess and monitor physical conditioning;
- treat sports-related conditions or injuries;
- speed recovery;
- boost athletic performance; and
- teach injury-prevention strategies.
The centre – complete with treatment rooms, private massage therapy and medical offices – is designed and equipped to facilitate every team’s needs.
Altitude Training
Altitude training, also referred to as ‘altitude camp’, is the practice by endurance athletes of training for several weeks at high altitude, preferably more than 2 500m above sea level. However, due to the scarcity of suitable locations, many commonly train at a lower altitude.
Those days are gone.
Lying at an altitude of 1 200m above sea level, Bafokeng Sports Campus is the ideal location for altitude training for sports professionals, with our luxury accommodation, leading-edge sports facilities and other extras including a high-performance gym, medical centre and convenient proximity to superb places of interest.
Insufficient oxygen is the limiting factor in sports performance, but this can be combated through altitude training; the benefits of which are well-documented and universally accepted. Physiologically, the following changes occur at altitude: new red blood cell production, new blood capillary growth, improved heart function and micro-organism efficiency. With these changes, athletes are able to significantly improve performance on all levels, by increasing speed, increasing power, improving VO2Max and enhancing overall concentration span.
